Google to Begin Hosting Third-Party App Stores Inside Google Play on July 22, 2026

Google and Epic withdrew July 15, 2026 proposed court changes following Judge James Donato’s Oct 2024 finding that Google had an illegal Android app-distribution monopoly, after a reported $800 million Epic settlement. Google says third-party app stores will be hosted inside Google Play starting July 22, and US developer listings will auto-share unless they opt out.

SpaceXAI’s Grok Build Was Quietly Uploading Users’ Full Codebases to Google Cloud

SpaceXAI said its Grok Build CLI was quietly uploading whole code repositories to Google Cloud—including files it was told not to open and secrets deleted from history—after July 2026 coverage by Cereblab. As of Monday the service returned disable_codebase_upload:true; Elon Musk promised deletion, while researcher Lukasz Olejnik called the data retention “excessive.”

EU Considers Age Limits and Possible Ban on Social Media Access for Teens

Ursula von der Leyen says the EU may propose new child social media rules within months: no screens under 3, supervised access under 13, and tighter limits for older teens, with platforms required to prove safety for younger users. The Commission will review the report “after the summer,” but any law needs approval from the European Parliament and all 27 EU member states, amid DSA scrutiny over Meta’s addictive design and TikTok’s 2026 findings.
