Meta Begins Unwinding $2 Billion Manus Acquisition After Beijing Orders Divestiture

Meta has started dismantling its $2B Manus acquisition, blocking employees from using Manus tools and cutting the companies off from internal systems and data sharing, Bloomberg reports. The June 2026 move follows Beijing’s national-security divestiture order issued about two months earlier, after regulators flagged possible technology export control and foreign investment issues. Manus, founded in China under Butterfly Effect, moved staff to Singapore in mid-2025, and its co-founders have discussed raising about $1B from outside investors to reclaim the startup.
