Apple announced three new AI-powered editing features for its Photos app at WWDC 2026 on Monday, June 8, 2026, all built on the company’s Apple Intelligence platform.
The headline addition is a spatial “Reframe” tool that lets users adjust the perspective of a photo as if they had repositioned the camera during the original shot. Users touch and drag to shift the frame, with a real-time preview showing a blur around the edges of the original image where new content will be filled in by Apple’s generative models. According to Apple, the tool only generates content to fill gaps created by the perspective change, keeping the result consistent with the original scene. Potential use cases include correcting off-center compositions, fixing missed eye contact with a subject, or removing unintended objects at the edges of a frame.
A second feature, called “Extend,” allows users to expand the boundaries of an image — either by pinching to zoom out or adjusting the crop — to add more space around a subject or to straighten a crooked horizon without losing any part of the original photo.
The existing “Cleanup” tool is also receiving an upgrade. The feature, which lets users tap, brush, or circle objects they want removed, will produce higher-quality results with more realistic generative AI infill.
All three features are part of Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence rollout, which the company continued to expand at WWDC 2026. For Photos users, the updates could make common compositional corrections — previously requiring third-party software — available directly within Apple’s native app.
