Twitch users can now opt out of having their content used to train Amazon’s generative AI models, the platform announced in 2026. The setting is available under the Security and Privacy tab in Twitch’s account settings, labeled “Training for Generative AI.”
When enabled, the opt-out covers a broad range of user content. According to a Twitch support page, opting out means “your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel” will not be used in future training of any Amazon AI model “whose purpose is to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.”
The toggle was found to be on by default when first located in settings, though Amazon has not confirmed whether that is the default state for all users.
Choosing to opt out does not disable all AI-related features on the platform. Twitch says tools categorized as “AI-supported” — including captions, AutoMod, real-time sponsorship campaign assistance, and content recommendations — will continue to function regardless of the setting. The opt-out applies specifically to generative AI model training.
There is also a notable limitation for users who participate in other streamers’ chats. According to Twitch, when a user chats on another person’s channel, “their opt-out preferences govern if that chat can be used for training.” In other words, a user’s own opt-out setting does not extend to activity on channels belonging to others.
The change gives Twitch streamers and viewers a degree of control over how their content and activity may be used by Amazon, though the platform’s privacy notice still permits the use of channel content for other purposes outside of generative AI training.
