Meta’s Threads announced on June 30, 2026, that it is adding new capabilities to its Live Chats feature while opening access to more users. The updates include translation support, new host management tools, and an expanded pool of eligible chat creators.
Translations make Live Chat conversations accessible to a broader global audience. Threads is also extending the ability to start Live Chats to all “Community Champions” — users the company describes as highly followed within their communities who post regularly and keep conversations active.
Hosts can now invite up to three co-hosts into a Live Chat to help manage discussions, with Threads comparing the arrangement to having a guest or additional moderator on a show. Hosts also gained the ability to delete messages for all participants. The platform is additionally testing ways to make host messages appear more visually prominent within chats.
Live Chats allow users to send messages, photos, videos, links, and emoji reactions, with up to 150 participants able to actively send messages at once. Beyond that limit, additional users can view the conversation, react to messages, and take part in polls in a “spectator” mode. Threads said it has seen hundreds of chats hosted nearly every day, with thousands of users joining since the feature launched.
The company also teased that desktop support for Live Chats and pinned messages are both in development, describing them as highly requested by creators.
The updates come as Threads continues to build out features aimed at real-time engagement. When the platform launched, it lacked tools such as robust search, hashtags, and a chronological feed that are standard on competing platforms. Those capabilities have since been added. Earlier this month, Threads reported reaching 500 million monthly active users, nearly three years after its launch.
