Spotify announced on August 17, 2026, the launch of “Playlist Notes,” a feature that allows listeners to add written context to songs, podcast episodes, and audiobooks within their playlists. The rollout builds on “User Notes,” a feature Spotify introduced the previous month that lets users annotate individual tracks.
To add a note, users open the Spotify mobile app, navigate to a playlist they own or collaborate on, tap the three dots next to a track or episode, select “add note,” and save it. Notes are visible to anyone who can view the playlist.
Spotify is also extending the feature to its editorial team. Editors can now add notes to curated playlists explaining why specific songs were selected. The feature is launching on some of Spotify’s highest-profile playlists, including Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.
Alongside editor notes, Spotify is introducing Editor Profiles — pages that display an editor’s top tracks and albums and the playlists they manage, offering listeners more visibility into who curates Spotify’s recommendations.
User-created notes are available on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets. Editor notes and profiles are rolling out to free and premium users aged 16 and older in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Spotify has framed the feature as part of a broader effort to make the app feel more social and personal. The company also noted it could help differentiate Spotify from rivals Apple Music and YouTube Music. Spotify recently reported surpassing 300 million subscribers for the first time, alongside 777 million monthly active users.
