OpenAI president Greg Brockman revealed in July 2026 that the company is developing a “family of devices” designed for interacting with its AI models, though he offered few specifics about what those products will be or when they will arrive — only that “you can expect them soon.”
Brockman made the comments in an interview with journalist Joanna Stern on her YouTube channel. He declined to confirm reports that one of the devices is a smart speaker OpenAI is rumored to be launching in 2027, nor did he address earlier speculation that a wearable similar to the Humane AI Pin could be in development.
When asked whether Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI could affect the hardware work the company is doing with former Apple designer Jony Ive, Brockman distanced OpenAI from the dispute. “We are focused on our own development and technology,” he said, adding, “We have no interest in other companies’ trade secrets. We are plenty innovative. We are thinking about things from our own angle.”
Brockman suggested the devices reflect a broader shift in how people will interact with computers, predicting that voice will replace typing for “the vast majority of what we do.” He acknowledged the practical challenge of people speaking to devices in shared workspaces, and pointed to soundproof “beak” masks that have begun appearing on the market as a sign of demand — though he noted the format is unlikely to be a lasting solution.
Brockman also addressed concerns about user privacy within ChatGPT, saying OpenAI is working on technological solutions to provide “verifiable, auditable guarantees” that only the AI — not OpenAI staff — can access users’ private data, including in the app’s “temporary chat” mode.
