Google’s NotebookLM is rolling out a new feature that generates 60-second vertical video clips from user-uploaded research materials, in a format similar to TikTok. The feature became available in June 2026 for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers.
The clips are produced automatically by NotebookLM based on the sources a user has added to a notebook. Google shared an example video covering Australia’s unsuccessful war on emus, pairing narration with paper cutout-style AI art of the birds.
To generate a short clip, users can open NotebookLM on the web or mobile app, select a notebook, and choose “Video” from the Studio column on the right side of the screen. From there, selecting “Short,” choosing a topic or entering a custom one, and hitting “Generate” will produce the clip.
The new video format joins several existing content types NotebookLM already supports, including AI podcasts, cinematic videos, and visual explainers — all designed to let users engage with their research in different ways.
The feature is currently available in English only. Google has indicated that support for free-tier users is coming “soon,” suggesting a broader rollout is planned beyond the current subscriber-only access.
