Spotify released a new standalone desktop app in May 2026 called Studio by Spotify Labs, designed to let users create AI-generated personal podcasts from their own data and web browsing.
The app allows users to explore topics by generating a podcast about them, and it includes an agent that can browse the web and pull in personal information — such as email and calendar data — to produce customized audio content. A user could, for example, request a daily briefing based on their schedule, or ask the app to build a travel podcast that incorporates calendar events, booking details, restaurant recommendations, and a driving playlist suggestion. All generated podcasts are saved privately to the user’s Spotify library and synced across devices; they are not publicly available.
Spotify is rolling out Studio as a research preview in more than 20 markets, limited to select users aged 18 and older. The company cautioned that the app is an early release and that AI-generated content may contain errors or unreliable information.
The launch positions Spotify against Google’s NotebookLM, which brought podcast generation from source material to wider attention in recent years. Other companies including Adobe and ElevenLabs, as well as apps like Hero and Huxe, have since introduced similar features.
Studio follows Spotify’s earlier release of a command-line tool that allowed users of coding environments like Claude Code or Codex to generate and save personal podcasts. The new desktop app extends that capability to users without a technical background.
The source also notes that the app could potentially be expanded in the future — for instance, by capturing system audio to function as a meeting notetaker in the style of tools like Granola or Rewind, though Spotify has not announced any such plans.
