Reddit is experimenting with a feature that uses artificial intelligence to convert text posts into short audio-video content, the company confirmed in August 2026. The feature generates videos in which AI voices read aloud the text of a post and selected comments, with the spoken text highlighted on screen as it is read.
The experiment was live on the web as of the report’s publication and was set to roll out on iOS and Android starting Tuesday, according to Reddit spokesperson Rosa Kim. The feature appears on both new and existing posts, with the company planning to expand it to more existing posts over time. Users can switch between text and video formats using a toggle marked “Read” or “Play” at the top of a post.
An example of the feature in action is a post from r/boardgames, originally published eight years ago, in which a user asked for road trip game recommendations. That post now includes a three-minute video with AI voices reading out the responses. A note beneath the video identifies it as a “Real conversation voiced by AI.”
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman hinted at the development during a recent earnings call, noting that there is an “emerging content type” of people consuming Reddit content through AI-voiced videos — including third-party YouTube channels dedicated to the format — and that a listened-to version of Reddit “can be really engaging as well.” The company also stated in a shareholder letter that it was “reimagining how users and communities connect, share, and consume content through a modernized video experience.”
Kim described it as “an early, limited experiment to understand whether people find these formats useful and how we can deliver them in a way that feels authentic to Reddit.” The feature could introduce issues such as mispronunciations or the misattribution of comments. Reddit earlier this year also rolled out video replies as a separate feature.
