Primate Labs released Geekbench 7 in 2026, the latest version of its widely used benchmarking tool for computers and mobile devices. The update introduces new audio and video encoding and decoding tests, a redesigned multi-core test, and larger, more demanding datasets for CPUs and GPUs to process.
The new audio and video tests cover AV1, Opus, and workloads modeled on video conferencing, streaming, and content consumption. The redesigned multi-core benchmarks are built to better reflect real software behavior, running workloads in a multi-threaded mode only when the tasks being modeled actually operate that way.
Primate Labs says Geekbench 7 uses “more demanding data sets to more accurately capture the hardware demands of modern applications.” Despite the expanded scope, tests still complete within a few minutes.
The software otherwise retains the look and feel of Geekbench 6. A Pro license — which enables offline benchmarking that is not uploaded to the Geekbench Browser — remains priced at $99, with a discounted rate of $79 available until August 6th. The Pro license covers Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Scores from Geekbench 6 are not compatible with Geekbench 7, meaning users who rely on the tool for comparative testing will need to rerun benchmarks to build a new baseline.
Geekbench is a synthetic benchmark, meaning it measures short bursts of computing performance rather than sustained loads. This distinction may matter to users evaluating hardware that can throttle under extended workloads, as the test’s brief duration may not fully capture that behavior.
