Notion temporarily disabled all Anthropic AI models in its productivity tool over the weekend after the integration experienced degraded performance, the company confirmed. Access has since been restored.
Early Sunday morning, Notion posted that Anthropic’s Opus 4.7 and 4.8 models were “experiencing degraded performance, which is causing a higher rate of failures for users selecting these models in Notion AI.” The company said it was disabling use of all Anthropic models as a result.
Approximately twelve hours later, Notion’s head of product Max Schoening announced that access to Anthropic’s models had been restored. He also pushed back on speculation circulating online about the cause, saying he was “astonished” at “the amount of people RT-ing this because they want a story around model quality to be the reason.” Notion’s original post had been reposted around 1,200 times on X at the time of his statement.
“The degraded performance was a temporary service disruption,” Schoening said. “This happens. It happens to Notion, GitHub, AWS, your OpenClaw, and everything in between.”
Anthropic confirmed the issue on its end. “A brief infrastructure issue caused elevated errors on multiple Claude models for a short period of time,” an Anthropic spokesperson said. “The issue has since been resolved. We’re grateful to our users for their patience while we worked to restore service.”
The incident drew notable attention given the volume of reposts, with Schoening’s response suggesting the online reaction reflected broader interest in narratives around AI model reliability rather than the disruption itself — which both companies characterized as a routine, temporary outage.
