Meta announced on Monday, June 15, 2026, that it is rolling out a set of new AI-powered features on Facebook, including a search overhaul called “AI Mode” and a range of creative editing tools.
The centerpiece update is AI Mode, a new way to search Facebook that uses Meta AI to generate synthesized answers drawn from public posts across the platform, including content from Groups and Reels. Rather than browsing traditional search results, users can ask questions in plain language and receive responses based on what people are discussing publicly.
The launch follows Meta’s introduction last month of Forum, a Reddit-style app featuring an “Ask” tab that similarly pulls answers from conversations happening across Facebook Groups. Both features raise questions about reliability, since the AI is summarizing content from everyday users rather than vetted sources — a concern that has already surfaced around Google’s own AI Mode on Reddit. Outdated or misleading information could slip through as a result.
Facebook also added creative editing tools, including collage cutouts and transition effects for video montages. A new AI-powered photo preset feature lets users change their appearance with different clothes, hairstyles, and accessories. Sports fans can virtually try on team jerseys through the “AI Edit” icon in Stories or by selecting “Restyle profile picture with AI” from their profile picture.
These updates build on a series of AI features Facebook has shipped in recent months. In February, the platform introduced animated profile pictures. In March, it added an AI feature to Facebook Marketplace that automatically replies to buyer messages on sellers’ behalf. Earlier in June, Facebook launched an AI assistant for creators offering personalized posting suggestions and comment summaries.
Meta has framed the push as a strategy to make Facebook more engaging and useful. Alongside these feature rollouts, the company recently launched global subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp starting at $3.99 per month, with additional AI-related subscription tiers reportedly in development.
