Meta has released Muse Spark 1.1, an updated version of its in-house AI model, alongside a new Meta Model API that allows developers to integrate the model into AI coding software. The launch was announced in 2026, with the API available in public preview for US developers starting today.
The company describes Muse Spark 1.1 as a “step-change” from the first generation, citing improvements developed in response to developer feedback. Key upgrades include more advanced coding capabilities — specifically the detection and fixing of complex bugs — better support for end-to-end agentic workflows across multiple apps and multi-agent systems, and native multimodal perception covering images, videos, and documents.
The new model is available now in Thinking mode through the Meta AI app and Meta AI website. Developers in the US can access it via the Meta Model API, which launches today in public preview. Meta is offering $20 in free credits with every new Meta Model API account.
Meta first re-entered the AI competition with the original Muse Spark model in April. That model initially launched exclusively through Meta AI before expanding to power chatbots inside Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as the latest Meta smart glasses. The 1.1 release follows this week’s introduction of Muse Image, an image generation model that has drawn controversy for its ability to incorporate other users’ Instagram content into its outputs.
The updates are part of Meta’s broader effort to justify the significant investment it has made in AI development and to reach parity with competitors including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic — a push that has included high-profile hires and a company restructuring in the past year.
