Meta previewed major upcoming additions to its Edits video-editing app at an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 11, 2026, including an AI assistant and a desktop version of the previously mobile-only app. Several other features also launched the same day.
The AI assistant is designed to help creators analyze their Instagram performance data — including views and video-retention metrics — and brainstorm content ideas. It will suggest video topics based on past performance and recommend content built around trending audio. The assistant is currently in testing with attendees of the creator event.
The desktop version of Edits will give creators more precise editing control and the ability to work on a larger screen, with seamless syncing between mobile and desktop devices. Meta says the desktop version is “coming soon.” The addition puts Edits more directly in competition with ByteDance’s CapCut, which already offers a desktop version. Edits launched last year as a direct competitor to CapCut.
Features rolling out immediately include a Beta tab for early access to experimental tools, expanded audience insights such as demographic breakdowns and peak engagement times, topic search within the app’s Inspiration feed, and the ability to create multiple versions of a piece of content for performance testing before publishing.
Meta says content made with Edits sees a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared to content not made on the app, and that more than half of people watching reels on Instagram see Edits-created content daily. The company did not share specific user numbers.
By embedding an AI assistant directly into Edits, Meta could reduce creators’ reliance on outside tools for brainstorming and performance analysis, while also encouraging more frequent posting. Meta launched a similar AI assistant for Facebook creators the previous week. YouTube and TikTok offer comparable AI-powered ideation tools for creators. Edits remains free to download on iOS and Android.
