Instagram is rolling out the ability for users to rearrange posts on their profile grid, a feature the platform first announced nearly a year ago. The update began reaching users broadly on June 8th, 2026, via the Android and iPhone mobile apps.
Until now, Instagram profiles displayed posts in chronological order, with the only customization option being the ability to pin up to three posts at the top. With the new feature, users can long-press and drag any post to a new position in the grid, regardless of when it was originally shared. Pinned posts will continue to appear at the top.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri first announced the feature in January of last year, alongside an apology to users whose carefully arranged profiles had been disrupted when Instagram switched from square thumbnails to taller, vertically oriented ones. Mosseri’s announcement post on June 8th, 2026 simply read “Finally,” acknowledging the lengthy wait between announcement and wide release.
The feature had previously been available to select users in test groups before the broader rollout. The comments on Mosseri’s post suggest that users are still waiting on other long-requested changes to the platform, including a native iPad interface.
