Google expanded its Gemini Spark AI assistant to macOS on July 1, 2026, adding the agent to its existing Gemini desktop app alongside a set of new features and third-party integrations.
The macOS version allows Spark to work with files stored on the computer — such as converting invoices into a budgeting spreadsheet or using local files as the source for a Google Workspace document. Google also says users will “soon” be able to assign multi-step tasks to Spark from their phones, including instructing the desktop agent to pull information from a file on their Mac, though that capability is not available at launch.
Among the new features is real-time topic tracking, which enables Spark to monitor things like sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, social media, blogs, online shopping, and weather. Google is also rolling out support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), letting users connect their own apps directly into Spark.
On the integration front, Google added support for Google Tasks and Google Keep — the latter notably absent at Spark’s initial launch last month. New third-party app connections include Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, enabling tasks such as reserving restaurant tables, ordering groceries, designing flyers, and booking apartment tours.
The macOS launch positions Spark alongside other desktop AI agents, including Claude Desktop and Microsoft’s Copilot. Google has also noted plans for Spark to handle remote tasks in the future.
Gemini Spark for macOS is currently in beta and available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.
