Florida and Texas Move to Remove Flock Surveillance Cameras Over Privacy and Misuse Concerns

September 2026 saw Florida and Texas move to drop Flock license-plate readers over privacy and misuse. Florida DOT ordered removal from state highways within 30 days after Ron DeSantis called it “out of control”; Texas halted funding after a Lufkin officer was indicted on 100 felony counts over alleged unauthorized database tracking in the ~130,000-camera network.

Pentagon adds ChatGPT and Grok to its secure AI portal for 3 million military and civilian users

In August 2026 the Pentagon added ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government to GenAI.mil, a secure portal launched last year with 1.7M unique users out of roughly 3M DoD personnel. The military versions are exempt from common commercial data collection, with ChatGPT Mil aimed at unclassified admin/logistics and Grok delivered via SpaceX’s Starshield AI.

Meta’s Asia VP Sandhya Devanathan Joins OpenAI Amid India Scrutiny

While India pressure builds on Meta, Sandhya Devanathan (Meta VP for India & Southeast Asia) is set to join OpenAI on Aug. 28, 2026, based in Singapore and reporting to APAC managing director Kiran Mani. She’ll lead consumer growth, enterprise adoption and regulatory engagement across Southeast Asia and Australia after Meta apologized in August for a July Instagram restriction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian officials summoned Joel Kaplan.
