Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has raised $200 million in a funding round led by Insight Partners, the companies announced in July 2026.
Founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, Spur develops technology that helps enterprises distinguish legitimate human users from bot traffic, identifying fake users and potential threats. The company’s platform focuses on exposing the infrastructure behind malicious activity — including criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization tools — rather than simply flagging the activity itself.
“As sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot: they can see the activity, but not the infrastructure behind it,” said Thomas Krane of Insight Partners.
The investment arrives as bot traffic has reached a significant threshold. According to a recent report from Cloudflare, bots now account for more internet traffic than humans — the first time this has occurred in the internet’s history. Cloudflare founder and CEO Matthew Prince noted on X that the milestone arrived sooner than expected, driven by rapidly expanding agentic AI traffic. “Thought it would be end of 2027, then early 2027, but agentic traffic growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet’s history,” Prince wrote.
The shift underscores why demand for bot-detection capabilities may be growing. Corporate security teams have long worked to identify and filter malicious automated traffic, but the scale and sophistication of that traffic has accelerated in recent years alongside advances in AI. Spur was founded five years before ChatGPT’s public launch, positioning it early in a market that has since expanded considerably.
