Newsletter platform Beehiiv announced in July 2026 a set of new features aimed at expanding the platform beyond newsletters, including a community discussion tool, an AI assistant called Copilot, and programmatic advertising capabilities.
The centerpiece of the update is a feature called Community, which allows subscribers of a creator’s newsletter to chat with one another directly within Beehiiv. Previously, creators typically directed their audiences to separate platforms such as Discord, Slack, or Facebook Groups. With Community, creators can host those conversations on Beehiiv itself, create paid membership tiers for exclusive chatrooms, and moderate discussions.
“People following your content have a shared interest in what you’re creating, but they can’t communicate with each other,” Beehiiv CEO Tyler Denk told TechCrunch. “Being able to have a community where your audience can actually engage with one another is super valuable.”
The company also launched AI Copilot, an assistant that draws on data about a creator’s content, audience, subscribers, and performance to offer growth and management advice. Copilot can analyze newsletter and podcast performance, draft outreach campaigns, and identify revenue opportunities. Beehiiv has additional AI efforts underway, including a model context protocol (MCP) server that connects to assistants like ChatGPT and Claude, and work on Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) to help newsletters appear more frequently in AI-generated answers.
On the monetization side, Beehiiv is introducing programmatic ads, letting publishers sell ad slots in their newsletters based on audience, content, and performance data. The company said publishers on its platform already earn more than $1 million per month through its existing ad network.
The updates follow recent additions including podcasts, webinars, and customizable paywalls. Beehiiv said 50% of podcast users migrated their shows from other platforms. A redesigned editor that displays editing and preview modes side by side is also shipping with this release.
Beehiiv’s rivals are making similar moves. Riverside launched a newsletter publishing feature last month, and Substack introduced a built-in recording studio in March 2026.
