Apple announced iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) on Monday, June 8, 2026. The update brings performance and design improvements, Screen Time changes, and a major expansion of Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities. iOS 27 will be supported on devices going back to the iPhone 11.
One of the more visible changes is an opacity slider for Liquid Glass, the glassy design system introduced in iOS 26. The feature had faced legibility criticism at launch, and Apple made adjustments before the public release. The new slider lets users control how glassy interface elements — such as tab bars — appear on screen.
Apple is also introducing what it calls the “next generation of Apple Intelligence,” featuring a redesigned Siri now named “Siri AI.” The updated assistant is described as more conversational, with responses appearing from the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. Users will be able to adjust Siri’s pace and expressivity, and a dedicated Siri app will store conversation history synced via iCloud. The camera app will also include a Siri mode capable of recognizing objects and logging those interactions. Siri AI will launch as a beta in English only and will not be available in the EU on iOS or iPadOS at launch.
Additional Apple Intelligence features are coming to Safari, Passwords, Messages, and the Phone app. Safari will be able to group related tabs and offer a “Notify Me” page-monitoring feature. The Phone app’s new “Call Context” feature will surface relevant information during calls, such as airline confirmation numbers. Photos is getting an upgraded Clean Up tool and the ability to reframe images using generative AI.
The update represents Apple’s continued effort to build out AI features first announced at WWDC 2024. The company previously delayed a planned Siri upgrade, citing development challenges, and recently settled a lawsuit related to undelivered AI capabilities. Apple also announced earlier in 2026 that it would use Google’s Gemini AI as part of its Siri upgrade.
