Anthropic closed a $65 billion Series H funding round in May 2026 at a $965 billion post-money valuation, in what the company suggests may be its last private fundraise before an IPO.
The round was co-led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue, and D1 Capital Partners, with institutional participation from Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, D.E. Shaw Ventures, DST Global, and Fidelity Management & Research. Strategic partners Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron also joined. Of the total, $15 billion represents previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including a $5 billion contribution from Amazon announced in April 2026.
Anthropic said it will use the funds to advance safety and interpretability research, expand compute capacity to meet demand for its Claude models, and scale products and partnerships. The round closed the same day the company released Claude Opus 4.8, a new model with improved capabilities in agentic tasks, advanced coding, and self-correction. Anthropic is also reportedly planning a broader launch of models comparable to its limited-release cybersecurity model, Mythos, which has been held back due to safety concerns.
The company’s run rate revenue crossed $47 billion earlier in May 2026, and The Wall Street Journal has reported that Anthropic expects a 130% revenue surge that would bring it to its first operating profit. Growth has been driven in particular by enterprise customers using Claude Code.
“Claude’s latest advancements have driven large-scale adoption among the world’s most demanding organizations,” said Brad Gerstner, Founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital.
The raise puts Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI, which raised $122 billion in March 2026 at an $852 billion post-money valuation, as both companies move toward public listings. Elon Musk’s SpaceX — which merged with xAI earlier in 2026 — is separately targeting a $2 trillion valuation in its own pending IPO and is seeking to raise more than $75 billion.
