Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has just one direct report — his chief of staff. The rest of Anthropic’s executive team reports to his sister, co-founder, and company President Daniela Amodei, who oversees day-to-day operations.
Amodei disclosed the arrangement in a June 2026 interview with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang, describing it as “incredibly freeing.” The structure allows him to focus on strategy, culture, research direction, and broader writing projects rather than personnel management.
Anthropic was founded just over five years ago and is currently valued by private market investors at approximately one trillion dollars, making it one of the fastest-growing AI companies in the world.
The reporting structure is highly unusual by industry standards. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reportedly has around half a dozen direct reports, which is described as far more standard. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang sits at the other extreme, with many dozens of direct reports.
The arrangement suggests that splitting executive responsibilities between two co-founders — with one focused on external vision and the other on internal operations — may free senior leadership from the management demands that typically consume large portions of a CEO’s time.
