Stability AI, the startup behind the Stable Diffusion image generation model, announced on August 25, 2026, that it has raised $76 million in Series B funding, bringing its total fundraising to $232 million.
The round drew investment from a notable group of entertainment and technology companies, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, and gaming company Electronic Arts. Investment firms AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures also participated.
CEO Prem Akkaraju, who joined the company in 2024, said the funding is “an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller.” Stability plans to use the capital to expand its “creative production” product suite and grow its professional services arm. The company currently offers AI models for music, video, and image generation.
The investor lineup reflects a broader shift in Stability’s strategy. Over the past year, the company — founded in 2019 — has signed a series of partnerships with entertainment firms, giving them a role in co-developing its AI tools rather than simply licensing outputs. It struck deals with Universal Music and EA in October 2025 and with Warner Music in November 2025.
Stability has also seen mixed but largely favorable outcomes in litigation. A UK judge ruled mostly in the company’s favor in a copyright lawsuit brought by Getty Images, which had accused Stability of infringing on its intellectual property by using Getty’s images to train its models. A similar Getty lawsuit in the United States remains ongoing. Separately, co-founder Cyrus Hodes sued the company in 2023, claiming he was misled into selling his stake by fellow co-founder Emad Mostaque.
The participation of major music labels and a gaming giant as investors — rather than typical venture firms — suggests the funding round may serve as much to cement commercial relationships as to provide capital.
