Google is rolling out a new AI-powered feature for its Discover feed that lets users describe what content they want to see, with changes set to arrive in the Google app within “coming days,” as announced in 2026.
The feature is accessible through the three-dot menu on the Discover feed. Tapping it opens a chatbot-style interface where users can describe their content preferences in their own words. The chatbot confirms the selected preferences and outlines what types of content it will prioritize. Users can add more detail if the initial result doesn’t match their expectations, then tap “Refresh your feed” to apply the changes. The AI will also “remember” stated preferences for future visits.
Google Discover currently serves up recommended articles based on a user’s activity across Google’s search engine and apps. The new chatbot customization tool may give users more direct control over that process. Several other platforms have introduced similar AI-driven feed customization tools, including YouTube, Instagram, Bluesky, and X.
Google also announced two additional updates alongside the Discover change. In the Google News app on Android, users can now personalize their daily audio briefings by selecting the specific topics they want to hear about. Separately, the company updated its Preferred Sources feature — which surfaces content from a user’s favorite outlets across Search’s “top stories” section, AI Overviews, and AI Mode — to allow publishers to place an interactive “Preferred Sources” button directly on their websites. Readers can tap the button to add that outlet to their list without leaving the page.
