Anthropic has agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month — roughly $15 billion annually — for access to cloud computing infrastructure, according to a regulatory filing SpaceX submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The deal gives Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI, access to GPUs housed at Colossus and Colossus II, a pair of data centers located across Tennessee and Mississippi with more than one gigawatt of combined computing power. SpaceX built the facilities for its xAI unit, which develops the Grok AI chatbot, but said it did not need all of the available capacity. The two companies announced the arrangement earlier in May, though financial terms had not been disclosed until the filing.
Anthropic will pay a reduced, unspecified fee for May and June 2026 before the full $1.25 billion monthly rate takes effect. The deal runs through May 2029. An Anthropic spokesperson confirmed the figures to WIRED.
SpaceX stated in the filing that it expects to pursue additional similar compute-services contracts while continuing to use its data centers for its own AI models. “We believe our dual monetization strategy provides multiple pathways to generate returns on invested capital,” the filing reads.
The disclosure came as part of SpaceX’s S-1 filing for what it describes as the largest IPO in history. The company is seeking to raise approximately $75 billion at a valuation of $1.75 trillion, with a potential Nasdaq debut under the ticker SPCX as soon as June 12, 2026. SpaceX reported nearly $4.7 billion in revenue and a loss of almost $4.3 billion in the first quarter of 2026. For full-year 2025, the company generated $18.7 billion in revenue but lost $4.9 billion.
The filing also disclosed governance details that may concern potential investors, including that only Musk himself has the authority to remove him as CEO, and that he and his allies will hold outsized voting power over the company’s board.
The scale of Anthropic’s compute spending — $15 billion a year to a rival AI company — suggests how critical access to processing infrastructure has become in the development of advanced AI systems. Anthropic’s own revenue for the second quarter of 2026 is expected to exceed $10 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.
