Intelligence, the company behind AI evaluation platform DesignArena, announced a $7.9 million seed round on Monday, August 4, 2026, led by Index Ventures with participation from Conviction, A*, Valkyrie, and others.
DesignArena is currently used by 5.3 million people worldwide and is generating $60 million in annual recurring revenue. The platform presents users with “A vs. B” comparisons of AI-generated visual outputs — including websites and images — allowing them to rank results from best to worst. Enterprise clients, primarily frontier AI labs, pay to access that aggregated human feedback data to improve their media-generating models.
Co-founder Grace Li says the idea emerged just weeks before her 2025 college graduation, when she and friends were building an AI game engine. The models could produce functional games, but the team found no reliable way to determine whether those games were actually enjoyable. That gap led them to explore scalable human feedback mechanisms, which became DesignArena. Within roughly a week of identifying the concept, Li says the company closed its first major deal with a frontier lab.
Because users must log in to receive outputs, Intelligence can also track how design preferences shift across regions and over time — data Li describes as a meaningful complement to automated benchmarks, which can be gamed or manipulated. She notes, for example, that web dashboards in Asia tend toward a more maximalist design style.
The human evaluation market has seen mixed results. Yupp, a competing platform that raised $33 million and reported over 1.3 million users, shut down earlier in 2026 after failing to build a sustainable business. By contrast, text-focused LM Arena raised $150 million in a Series A in January 2026, just four months after launching its paid product, suggesting demand for human-led AI evaluation data remains strong in at least some segments of the market.
