Snapchat launched a real-time music sharing feature in 2026, allowing users to broadcast what they are currently listening to through Snap Map. The feature, called “Now Playing,” rolled out on July 27, 2026, and is available in regions where both Spotify and Snapchat operate, with Canada listed as coming soon.
The feature works by letting users link their Spotify account to Snapchat, after which their active listening activity becomes visible to others on Snap Map. Users can see what their friends are listening to in real time, and can control who has access to their activity. Sharing pauses automatically if the app has not been opened in more than 24 hours and resumes when the user returns. Users can also manually pause sharing for three hours, 24 hours, or indefinitely.
Now Playing is also integrated with Spotlight, Snapchat’s short-form video feed. Songs discovered in Spotlight videos can be saved directly to Spotify or accessed via the track’s page on the platform.
Snapchat’s head of music, Manny Adler, described the feature as adding “a new layer of expression and discovery to Snap Map, helping Snapchatters share the soundtrack to their day and find new music through the people they already know.”
The feature does not display a user’s listening history or last-played song — only what is actively playing while the app remains in use within the past 24-hour window.
Snap Map, which launched in 2017 as a location and public content tool, now has more than 450 million monthly users. The addition of Now Playing continues an expansion that has brought local hotspots and activity features to the map over time. The broader social media landscape has seen similar moves, with Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify each introducing their own music-sharing capabilities.
