Snap has reached a tentative settlement in a lawsuit alleging that social media platforms cause harm to children and young adults, making it the latest tech company to resolve its portion of the case ahead of a jury trial scheduled for later this month in Los Angeles.
The settlement was confirmed by Snap, according to Bloomberg, though financial terms were not disclosed. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The case centers on a plaintiff identified by the initials “R.K.C.” TikTok settled its portion of the lawsuit ahead of the trial, and YouTube has also reached a deal. Meta is now the only remaining defendant.
Meta has faced setbacks in similar litigation. Earlier in 2026, it suffered its first courtroom defeat over child safety claims in a case in New Mexico. In March, a Los Angeles jury ruled against Meta and Google in a separate case involving a plaintiff known as “K.G.M,” or Kaley, awarding her $6 million in damages.
These lawsuits allege that social media platforms are addictive by design and that their algorithms negatively affect the mental health of children and teenagers. The wave of litigation could push companies to introduce stronger child safety measures, expanded parental controls, and other platform design changes to reduce exposure to future legal action.
