Antonio Pinto, one of the original founders of TV Time, announced in July 2026 that he is building a new TV and movie tracking app called Bingers — designed to replace the shutting-down service and give its community somewhere to go.
TV Time, which has more than 26.4 million lifetime installs according to app intelligence provider Appfigures, is being wound down after its current owner, Whip Media, shifted its focus to AI. The pending closure prompted more than 25,000 users to sign a petition against it. The app is set to be removed from app stores on July 15, 2026.
Pinto, who is based in Paris, originally built the app — then called TVShow Time — before selling it to Whipclip (now Whip Media) in 2016. He said he learned the app was being shut down and felt compelled to act. “I decided to build the new home where the TV Time community could go. I wanted to rebuild all TV Time[‘s] great features, but also fix everything that always bothered me,” he wrote in a blog post on the Bingers website.
One of those issues was performance. Pinto said high server costs contributed to TV Time’s shutdown, with its premium subscription covering only about 10% of those expenses. He says Bingers has been built with a lower-cost server architecture intended to make the app more financially sustainable and faster to respond when large numbers of users are active simultaneously.
Bingers will allow users to import their TV Time watch history and community comments using the GDPR-compliant data export tool available through TV Time before its removal. That import functionality is already live on the Bingers website, so viewing histories will be ready when the app launches.
Pinto told TechCrunch that Bingers will be available on the App Store and Google Play by the end of July 2026. A waitlist is currently open on the Bingers website for users who want to be notified at launch.
