Google has launched a new “Video Remix” feature in Google Photos that uses artificial intelligence to edit and transform video clips in seconds. The feature began rolling out on July 8, 2026, to eligible subscribers in the U.S. and 13 other countries.
Video Remix is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently released model. Users can access the tool through the “Create” tab in Google Photos, where it offers options such as cinematic relighting to brighten dark footage, background replacement, and artistic style effects including watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting.
Google framed the launch as an effort to make video editing accessible without professional skills or dedicated software. “Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing,” the company wrote in its announcement. “Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.”
The release is part of Google’s broader push to integrate generative AI tools into its consumer applications as it competes with companies including Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. By adding AI-powered editing directly into Google Photos, the company is positioning the app as an alternative to standalone editing software.
Video Remix is available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. At launch, the feature is accessible in the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
The Video Remix tool follows a series of recent AI additions to Google Photos, including touch-up tools for portrait edits such as blemish removal and eye brightening, as well as a feature that converts photos of clothing into a digital closet with virtual try-on capabilities.
