Anthropic expanded access to its Claude Cowork platform on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, making it available on mobile and web for the first time. Previously, Cowork was only accessible through the Claude desktop app for macOS and Windows.
The rollout is reaching Max subscribers first, with users on other Claude plans set to gain access “in the coming weeks.” iOS and Android users can now use Cowork, though Anthropic notes the “full experience” will remain on the desktop app, which retains features such as local file access.
A notable change accompanying the launch is that Cowork sessions now run in the cloud by default. This allows users to continue sessions across devices and run Cowork tasks in the background even when a laptop is closed. Desktop app users can still switch between cloud and local processing. Scheduled tasks will also now execute even when none of a user’s devices are online, and Claude can send Cowork notifications to a user’s phone when something is ready for review or approval.
Alongside the mobile and web launch, Anthropic is extending its doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5th.
The expansion to mobile and web could make Cowork more accessible to users who primarily work outside the desktop environment, though Anthropic’s own framing suggests the desktop app will remain the more capable option for the time being.
