Google has significantly expanded the color options available for events in Google Calendar, raising the previous limit of 11 predefined colors to up to 200 custom colors per event.
The update rolled out on June 17, 2026 for users on Google’s rapid release domains, with a broader rollout beginning June 29th. The change may take a few weeks to reach all users. It applies across Google Calendar’s web app, mobile apps, and the Calendar API.
The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and personal Google account holders. It will be enabled by default, requiring no action from users.
Users now have 24 default colors to choose from — up from the previous 11. Those accessing Calendar via the web or the API can go further, using a full RGB color picker to define additional custom colors up to the 200-color limit.
Google described the update as fulfilling “a long-standing feature request.” The original 11-color limit made it difficult for users who rely on color-coding to distinguish between personal and work events, as unrelated events often had to share the same color. With the expanded palette, each event can carry a unique color, making calendars easier to scan at a glance.
