Joint Fabric builds on a previous attempt called Fabric Sync, introduced in Matter 1.4 in 2024, which allowed devices set up in one ecosystem to be shared to another through a single authorization step — but still kept each platform on its own separate network. The CSA said at the time that major platforms were expected to implement Fabric Sync within a year; as of mid-2026, that adoption has not materialized.
