Apple unveiled a redesigned, AI-powered version of Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) on Monday, June 8, 2026 — two years after the company first promised but failed to deliver a smarter assistant.
The updated assistant, called “Siri AI,” is designed to move beyond voice commands and function as a conversational AI companion. It launches alongside a dedicated Siri app and positions Apple more directly against platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
Siri AI can draw on current world knowledge, access information stored on a user’s device, and respond based on what is displayed on their screen. When answering questions, it displays text cards with results pulled from the web or a user’s messages. Users can also ask Siri to handle more complex tasks — drafting emails, brainstorming, reviewing documents — by pulling in data from the web, previous emails, calendars, and contacts.
A new “Write with Siri” feature, available in Mail and Messages, allows the assistant to adapt its writing style to match how a user typically communicates with a specific person. For instance, if a user usually sends brief, direct messages to their manager, Siri will mirror that tone when drafting on their behalf.
On the hardware side, Siri has been redesigned for modern iPhones and will now live in the Dynamic Island, replacing the screen-glow animation previously triggered when activating the assistant. Users can swipe down from the Dynamic Island to type a query or start a conversation, in addition to using “Hey Siri” or the side button.
Apple also announced a new voice experience with customizable speaking pace and expressivity, along with improved system-wide dictation accuracy covering spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. On macOS, Siri is being integrated into Spotlight, and on watchOS, users can ask questions and take action directly from their watch.
