Microsoft launched a redesigned version of Microsoft 365 Copilot in 2026, rolling out a cleaner interface that the company says loads twice as fast across desktop and mobile devices.
The update introduces more structured responses designed to be easier to scan, along with a feature Microsoft calls “progressive disclosure.” Rather than displaying all available tools and controls at once, Copilot now surfaces options based on the specific prompt a user enters. The upgraded prompt box also supports direct text formatting and expands automatically to accommodate whatever a user types or pastes in.
Within Microsoft 365 apps, Copilot continues to operate through a side panel, where it can answer questions and suggest or apply changes to documents. Users can also open a chat window directly from within a paragraph, spreadsheet cell, or presentation slide.
Google launched a comparable design update for its Gemini AI app the previous week, also enabling the chatbot to structure its responses based on user prompts.
The changes may make day-to-day interactions with Copilot faster and less cluttered for users who rely on it across Microsoft’s productivity suite, though the practical impact will depend on how the rollout performs across different devices and workflows.
